オールドロッカー達の逆襲（179）

マイケル・ジャクソンの死を予想する人はいなかったでしょう。しかし、その後彼のCDが売れるだろうことは予想できました。が、ここまでとは!!　正直ビックリしました。これは、それがいかに衝撃的なことだったかがわかります。今週の「POP CATALOG」チャートは、マイケル・ジャクソンとジャクソン5のアルバムで埋めつくされたといっても過言ではありません。すごいことです!!　個人的には、1970年のジャクソン5時代のマイケルが最も印象的です。後は最後までピンときたものはなかったですね。当時毎夜9時前にFENから流れるてくる『アイル・ビー・ゼア』は新鮮だった。『ABC』も日本のラジオで良くかかっていた。その他『帰ってほしいの』など、バブルガムといってしまえばそれまでですが、モータウンのツボを抑えた作り。今でもたまに聞くと、うまいな〜と思います。もちろんマイケルの歌もシビレ（表現が古い!?）ます!!　まだまだ当分の間マイケルはチャート上を賑わすでしょう。ご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。

萩原健太さんの「MUSIC MAGAZINE」6月号の記事によると、「ディランが旬らしい。」!!　新作「トゥゲザー・スルー・ライフ」は、なんのタイアップなしでチャート1位に。また数年前までには考えらえないほどツアーも盛況のよう。いや結構なことです。それとは全然関係なくわたし個人的にも旬というほどではないですが、最近やたらとディランを聞く機会が多いです。といってもわたしのいつものこと、まずはベスト盤を!?　初期の有名曲からまじまじ!?　と聞くと、歌詞に関しては相変わらず頭を使いますけど、意外やメロディーメーカーなのだな再発見!!　こんなことを書くとディラン・ファンの方達に笑われちゃうかな!?　でも、正直な話。あの曲もこの曲もと、昔からカバーが多いのもうなずけます。カバーといえば「ボブ・デイラン・デビュー30周年コンサート」のライブ盤はいいね!!　とくにCD2枚目はヒマがあると!?　聞いています。エリック・クラプトンの『くよくよするなよ』は白眉!!　まあ、いづれにしても、かつてはやや疎遠だったわたしのディランを見る目、聞く耳も変りそうな気配です!!

今年はロック史におけるターニング・ポイント、「ウッドストック」から40年ということもあるのか、ロック雑誌ではウッドストックを含め、ビートルズ解散前夜、オルタモント、ワイト島などをキーワードに1969年のロック・シーンを振り返る特集が目につきます。そう、これはやらねばいけない企画ですね。内容的にはとくに目新しいものはありませんが、うなずけます。そんな中、今年の8月これこそ意味のある作品「Rhino's "Woodstock -- 40 Years On: Back to Yasgur's Farm" box set」がリリースされるようです（収録曲などは以下のとおり）。以前書いたことがあると思うのですが、ウッドストックの全音源をまとめたものが出ないものかと考えていました。今回の作品は、さすがに「全部」というわけではなさそうだけど、出演順にすべてのアーティスト達が網羅されているようです。これはすごい!!　今年の夏、最大の話題作になるかもです!!

話は少し古く、またこの日記で取り上げるのもなにかな？　とも思いますが、宇多田ヒカルさんの話題を少々。もっともわたし自身彼女のことは極初期の日本でのヒット。また、お母さんが藤圭子さん。宇多田さんのプライベートなこと。海外進出などなど一般的なことしか知らないので、あまりいえないのですが。さて、その宇多田さんが海外での再挑戦かな？　Utada名義のアルバム「ディス・イズ・ザ・ワン」が先週5月30日付のビルボード・アルバム・チャートに69位（67位だったかも？）に再登場。日本のマスコミでも取り上げられたので知っている方もいるでしょう。このチャートを見た時、すみませんが一瞬目を疑いましたね!!　これって結構すごいと思った!!　まあ、レーベルもアイランドですしマーケティングが効を奏したといえるかもしれません。翌週には100位以下に下がったようですが快挙といえるでしょう!!　「MUSIC MAGAZINE」6月号のクロス・レヴュー（アルバム・レビュー）では、総じて「まあまあ」or「ネガティヴ」なご意見!?　アメリカでの結果と日本での予想。この勝負!?　どちらに軍配が上がったのでしょうか!?

今さらポールでもないので一度は店頭で無視を決め込んだのですが、「レコードコレクターズ」6月号で誉めていたので翌日購入!!　それがポール・マッカートニーの4曲入りアルバム!?「アメーバズ・シークレット」。これは2007年6月27日、900人のファンで溢れたアメーバ・ミュージック（レコード・ショップ）にて行われたシークレット・ギグを収めたもの。2年ほど前にアナログ盤で出たらしいですけど、それをCD化したもの。この中の『ザット・ワズ・ミー』『アイ・ソー・ハー・スタンディング・ゼア』が2008年のグラミー賞にノミネートされたということからの発売ということです。たしかにポールとバンドはすごいパフォーマンス!!　これを聞いて最初に思ったのは、ウイングス全盛時のライブを収めたアルバム「ウイングス・オーバー・アメリカ」ような手触りです。ここ数年、ライブでは若いバック・ミューシャンを従えているせか、はたまたそれをポールが狙っているのか、荒削りな音を求めているような気がします。その際たるものがウイングス全盛時だったのではないかと。もっといえば、ビートルズ最初期の音かな。ポールの歌声は若々しく『アイ・ソー・ハー・スタンディング・ゼア』では、1962年の声のよう!!　グラミー賞「ベスト・ソロ・ロック・ボーカル・パフォーマンス」受賞は逃したものの、ノミネートされるだけの価値はある!!　この年でロックの本質、荒々しさを求めるポールをちょっと!?　見直した!!

先日朝日新聞夕刊に載っていたスパークスのライブは、非常に高評価でしたね。初めて彼らを知ったのはいつの頃かな？　わたしの記憶だと1970年代前半、ヤマハ銀座店の輸入盤コーナーでスパークスのアルバムを見た時だと思うけど。まあ、なにせあの2人のルックスだから印象に残りますよね。とくに兄さんのロン・メイルは当時のファッションに逆らうかのようなフォーマルなスタイル!!　おまけにちょびヒゲなんて!?　どうみてもコミック・バンドだろうと思わずにいられませんでした。でもこれは広い意味で当っていたのかも？　実は同時期、日本のジャグ・バンド「田舎芝居」のメンバーにも同じような雰囲気の方がいて、良く友人と笑いのタネにしたものです。そして、その後現れたチープ・トリックのビジュアル・イメージにもわたしはスパークスを見ましたよ。記事を読むと現在も変らぬ同じスタイルらしいです。考えてみるとすでに40年近いキャリアのスパークス!!　浮き沈み（沈みのほうが長い？）はありましょうが、堅実に自分達の音楽を貫き、評価を得てきた生き方に感心しました。アーティストとしては幸せなことでしょうね!!

図書館から借りた「ロックの歴史　ロックンロールの時代」（株式会社シンコーミュージック）を読み終わりました。もう16年も前に出た本ですね。著者は、おなじみ萩原健太さん。すでにお読みになった方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。ロックンロールの誕生からフィル・スペクターまで!?　こりゃサブタイトルそのままでした!?　まあ、実際そうなのでわかりやすいかなと。特別目新しい話もないですが、わかりやすく、どんどん読めますね。萩原さん自身、この時代より後の生まれなので遡って聞いたということです。それにしても、膨大な数!!　さすがに音楽評論家になるだけのことはある。わたしのような者には物理的にもできないことです。巻末に載っている「ロックンロール時代のベストアルバム100選」。読むとみんな聞きたくなりますよ。でもね〜、なかなか難しい。このあたりの音楽はもはや文化財!!　それこそ図書館あたりでCDを買い上げ体験しやすくする、なんてことはできないでしょうか？　映画もそうですが、過去の作品に触れるということは有意義なはず。アニメ文化もいいですが、こちらにも少し予算をまわしてね!!

4月21日（火）の朝日新聞夕刊最後のページに、7月に来日が予定されているサイモン＆ガーファンクルの広告がデカデカと出てましたね。アルバム「明日に架ける橋」のジャケットからとった2人の写真が、どうしても目を惹きます。そのちょっとどころではない画質の粗さがまたいい味で!!　1969年に録音された「LIVE 1969」がメインの宣伝!?　そのためかキャッチ・コピーは「あれから40年。あなたは、何処で何をしていましたか？」。そう聞かれてもわたしの勝手でしょ!?　なんてひねてしまいますけど、まあこの文を読んだみなさん、それぞれの感慨があるでしょう。月並みな感じはしますが、うまいコピーです。今ではこの2人の曲を聞くことはそうありません。でもたまに、『いとしのセシリア』とそのB面だった（と思う）『ニューヨークの少年』が無性に聞きたくなる。そして聞くと、なぜか放課後の理科室のにおいを思い出すのです!!

またまた映画ネタ!?　またまたビートルズネタ!?　いささか恐縮ですが、ちょっと（の度合いは大きいですが）感動した!!　こういえばその理由!?　はわかりますよね。そうです!!　映画「アクロス・ザ・ユニバース」を見たのです。まあ、一番感じたのは、こういったビートルズの曲によって触発されたイメージ、例えば有名な「イラストレーテッド・ビートルズ」やビートルズの楽曲を使用した映画の数々、はたまた最近ではシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユの「LOVE」など、彼らの音楽が世に出て40年以上も経つというのに、今だに新鮮なイメージが生まれる。「ビートルズ」という音楽の偉大さを改めて思い知らされましたね。それほどすばらしい映像でした。また、彼らの歌詞（この映画では一部改変があるようです）の素直な感情表現。そして、一方では、複雑でかつ意味深な世界。字幕が出るので、さんざ知っているとはいえダイレクトに伝わってくる。ポールの歌詞もなかなかやるものです!?　ただ、映画として見ると掘り下げが甘く、単なるエピソードの羅列。登場人物の描き方も通俗的でそう面白いものではないですね。一種のミュージカルとして見たほうが良いでしょう。ビートルズとなるといろいろ文句も出るのはいたしかたないところ。でも、映像・サントラとも、その名に恥じない、「現代のビートルズ」として立派な作品になっていたので安心しました。おすすめです!!
